These pages are devoted to non other than Saul Hudson, former lead guitarist to the band Guns N Roses, and current lead guitarist to the band Velvet Revolver. I am a huuugggeee fan of Slash, and decided to dedicate a category to him solely. If you have any interesting facts you would like to add about Slash, or Guns and Roses/Velvet Revolver for that matter, please feel free to post a comment.

PS I am saddened Slash is not a part of the new GUNS N ROSES. As messed up as Axl Rose is, the band made beautiful music together.

This is the group that I love and miss:

So I will start off with the first interesting fact about Slash:

1. Slash is bi-racial, born to his African-American mother and British father in 1965, 23rd of July.

2. Slash has also agreed to appear in a reality TV show alongside OZZIE OZBOURNE detailing the lives of Rock Stars/band and their darker moments while battling with substance abuse

3. Slash grew up in the Arts Industry as his mom was a clothing designer for entertainers such as David Bowie, and his father an album designer/director for Artists such as Neil Young, Joni Mitchell.

photo of oxycontin tabs 80 mg

The drug that links Tara McDonald (mother of the 8 year old girl who was abducted from her school yard on April 8, 2009 and murdered) and her female abductor, Teri-Lynne McClintic is a drug known as Oxycontin. A few weeks after Tori Stafford’s disappearance, her mother came forward and admitted to have struggled with an addiction to the drug, as well as being on Methadone treatment. It is said that Tara McDonald and the female suspect in the case are acquainted through the drug. Oxycontin is a very strong prescription drug used to relieve chronic pain. People with very chronic pain, and I mean very acute pain, are prescribed this drug to help relieve pain. I say strong because it is known to be highly addictive because of its effects. One Oxycontin pill is the equivalent of sixteen percocet pills. Percocet is another prescription drug used to relieve pain. Unlike Percocet, Oxycontin does not contain any aceptaphetamine so people using oxycontin do not experience the sensation of nausea as they possibly could when taking percocet. Oxycontin has also proven to be more effective because it is a time-released medication. A portion of the medication is released instantly once the drug is used, and the remainder of the medication is released hours later, giving a long lasting effect.

People who abuse this drug will usually crush the pills up and inject it through the blood stream as a person abusing any drug in its street form would. Once someone has been using Oxycontin for awhile, it is difficult for them to stop as once they do, the pain seems to re-appear and sometimes more severely. The person will experience feelings of unbearable chronic pain all over again and won’t be able to find relief except through use of the drug all over again. It is a vicious cycle.

I also do not judge drug-users or dealers- To each his own. These pages are more for education, awareness and research purposes. The topic of drugs and their effect on people is something that has always intrigued me, and perhaps that is because I have never used them before. I know about drugs from what I read about them, and that’s as far as it goes. I find the topic interesting, however. The things drugs can make people do; their effect on individuals; how a certain drug can effect two individuals differently- I find it all very interesting.

The following list I got from www.neonjoint.com and it is an alphabetical listing of the street terms of certain drugs. You’ll notice, if you scroll down the entire list, that you will see the same names re-appear: marijuana, crack, cocaine, heroin, PCP, LSD, MDMA, methamphetamine, etc. If you know anything about any of the following, or have something to share, feel free to leave a comment.

The following are what I call my ‘What the hell????’ videos. These are videos I have watched over and over and over again and have tried to dissect the storyline out of them, to no avail. If you’re like me, you’ll watch a video or listen to a song and try to find the meaning behind the words and the actions. Examine the following, and if you know PALLEEEAASSSSEEE post a comment and share, because I really don’t have a clue.

First on my list is none other than the Franz Ferdinand. I have recently fallen in love with this band and their music, and this song happens to be one of the most recent releases by this group. In the video, the lead singer is sitting in a motel room. I assume it’s Friday night; he’s bored, as he allows us to know, and he is looking for something to do. He calls up some buddies. His intention is to get high. My question is, the trashing of the motel room, the partying- Is that all really happening, or is he hallucinating alone, inside of the laundry mat, on the account of him being high? And then the following day, I suppose, Saturday, it happens again. What brings me to this conclusion that these could be hallucinations is that near the end of the song he and the rest of the band are running through the desert and he says, ‘Oh, then suddenly you know, you’re never going home, you’re never, you’re never, you’re never, you’re never, you’re never, you’re never, you’re never going home…you’re not Ulysses, baby no, la la la la…oooo ooo oooo.’ The point he makes here is that once you get so high, you are so far gone???? I donno, just watch I suppose.

Okay, this next video is by Radiohead. A much, much older video than that of the Franz Ferdinand video. This video and song ‘Just’ is from the mid 90s. The first time I saw this video I was still in elementary school. Still, also, one of my favorites, but I am stuck on what happens in this video. What happened that possessed this guy to lay down in the middle of the sidewalk, downtown, on what I am guessing was his way to work. At first I just thought he had a really bad case of Monday morning blues (I’m sure we’ve all experienced it at some point or another). People passing by stop to figure out what is wrong with this guy and he doesn’t want to tell anyone. He’s not crazy, he’s not depressed, not drunk, and he does not fear Armageddon…so what is it? I have typed in so many searches in google and yahoo and read comments on line and still have not found an answer. I think I remember seeing a live interview with Radiohead once and Tom York (lead singer) laughed, but did not reply when asked what was behind the message in the video. Anyway, when the guy finally tells all the people crowded around him, why he is lying down in the middle of the sidewalk, the scene turns and suddenly everyone is lying down. Video over. Have a look:

This video has been dis-embedded, so please watch through this link on youtube.

Okay, next up is Anthony Kiedis and RCHP. Now I love Anthony, and I love RCHP, but how Anthony is even alive to this day, I don’t know. Anyone who was around in the 90s and listening to enough alternative would know that Anthony dabbled with a lot of ‘things’ here and there. What he was high on in this video, I don’t know. My ‘What the hell’ question for this video comes well after the second verse and perhaps the third bridge. In the chorus you hear the, “I know, I know for sure-” followed by “Ding dong ding deng ding dong ding deng ding deng…” -and then- “I know, I know it’s you” -and again- “ding dong ding deng ding dong ding deng ding deng” ????

My question here is, are those actual lyrics to the song (swear words, censored), or just filler? Give it a listen, and if you are an RCHP fan and you have a clue, please comment!

This next video has to be the darkest and most morbid video I have ever seen in my life. From a writer’s stand point, the writer/director/producer of this video would have had to crawled into a very dark place in the back of his mind in order to achieve the effectiveness of this video. ‘Mein Teil’ is a song by Ramstein (Germany). ‘Mein’ in German translates to ‘My’ in english, and ‘Teil’ translates to ‘unit, family, parts…’ so many words as a matter of fact. I am bilingual, but not unilingual, so from the song/video alone, and trying to translate the title, I cannot for the life of me figure out what this song is about. Maybe because as I look at what ‘Mein Teil’ translates into, and then I watch the video, I draw blanks. I warn you, if you do not have an open mind and you cannot handle certain things, don’t watch this video; likewise if you are a sensitive person with sensitive viewing pleasures. Yes, and this kind of Industrial Metal still exists.

Okay, for today’s ‘What the hell’ video, I just have one quick question. What the HELL was Scott Weiland on when filming this video????? This video could not be embedded onto the blog page, so click the youtube link to watch.

6. Men Without Hats – Safety Dance

Okay, quick blog, I have not been keeping up these past few days, but somehow I have found the time to post number 6 of my top 10 80s music countdown; and coming in at number 6 is the Safety dance. Do you know the Safety Dance?

I am one of the biggest 70s/80s music and retro fanatics!!! Welcome to my all time favs, top 10 countdown. I will be uploading one new video everyday, so stay tuned!

7. Cameo – Candy

This song is border-lining old school but is from the same era non-the-less. This video could not be embedded onto my blog page, so you will have to click the youtube link to watch. I find this video to be extremely comical, but I like it, and I love the song. I don’t think there has been an old school jam I have been to yet that has not had this song on their rotation. The highlight of this video? His red patent-leather jock strap I would have to say (lol, kidding). Happy listening!

8. Patrick Swayze – She’s like the Wind

Okay, my error. This does not really constitute as retro, but how could I not include this song in the 80s top ten??? This song is an 80s classic. Patrick Swayze is one dude who can sing and act. Can’t say the same for many (clear throat).

9. The Clash – Rock the Casbah

The Clash, an awesome retro group from the 80s…this happens to be my favorite hit by the Clash. This is a song I can listen to over and over and over again.

The actual video is not working. Follow the link to watch the actual video on youtube.

10. Dead or Alive – You Spin me Right Round

This video is classic!

Now I have always been a sap for the violin. Its sound, its appearance- I always loved its melody. I love jazz, and jazz has always been up there when it comes to my more preferred genres of music, but when I heard this on you tube the other day, I thought ‘this is simply amazing!’ I have fallen in love with the electric violin.

First of all, I know it takes great talent to be able to play any musical instrument. In my lifetime I have always been more active in sports than inclined to play music. Grade seven and eight music class I played percussion; grade four-six I played the yukele, and prior to that, the recorder. One year Santa Claus brought me a nice Casio Keyboard for Christmas which I learned to play by ear (one hand). Yet, I think one of my biggest regrets is not learning how to play one instrument (aside from the drums) well.

I love all kinds of music, it really all depends on my mood, so this video (when I came across it) was a very big deal to me. I like AC/DC, but to hear it on the electric violin was a trip and a half. Just listen.
